16 years of experience
Picture yourself on the other side of this.
For 16 years I have helped people through depression, anxiety, trauma and serious mental illness, back to sleep that rests, work that feels possible, and relationships that feel safe again. Reaching out is the hardest step. You can take it here.

Hi, I'm Dr. Garuba.
Dr. Mariam Garuba · MD, board certified in adult and forensic psychiatry
I'm a psychiatrist with 16 years of experience in adult and forensic psychiatry. I have cared for people in almost every setting there is:
- Inpatient hospitals
- Outpatient clinics
- Forensic settings
- Jails
- Community care
- Private practice
My approach is multifaceted. I treat the whole person (your biology, your mind, and the life and relationships around you) because not everyone needs medication, and not everyone responds to it. Psychiatrists call this the biopsychosocial approach.
I have a particular focus on trauma, on the mental health of Black women, including the ways long-term stress shows up in the body, and on survivors of human trafficking.
I help people living with
